Spark Plug Overheating

Detonation can cause vaporizing of metal in the cylinder, which will re-condense on the plug insulator in the form of tiny metal spheres. An overheated insulator will look chalk-white, and the electrode may be eroded.

Overheating can be caused by detonation from too much turbo boost, from improper plug tightening, or from too hot a plug.
